Frolicking Fall Fairies
Bring whimsy to craft time with super-cute leaf fairies. Kids love imagining the wonder of fairies, and fall fairies are no exception! This craft idea is quick to make, but inspires hours of fun. Start with Maple Leaves Classic Accents® and clothespins or craft sticks as the base for each fairy. Forage items from the craft bin, like paper shreds or scraps, markers, leftover fabric, felt, and so on to add fun fairy details. Make up stories, act out scenes, and more. When you’re done, decorate a flower pot or small garden with your fairy friends!
Fall Friends: Hounds, Turkeys, and Leaf People!
Transform Maple Leaves Classic Accents® into a whole pack of fall friends! Help kids cut strips of felt, fleece, or other soft fabric into puppy ear shapes. Cut noses out of black construction paper, or for added texture, use faux leather or vinyl. Children have fun arranging puppy ears, nose, and googly eyes to transform the leaf into their puppy pal. Let the happy hound inspire storytelling, add interest to fall bulletin board displays, or use as a fall card to wish friends a “Howlin’ Good Fall!”
What other critters can you imagine? Create even more leaf-inspired pals using a mix of Maple Leaves Mini Accents and Classic Accents®. Choose a variety of cutout leaves and tilt, turn, and fold them making fun critters appear. Silly eyes and texture elements like sticks, chenille stems, and yarn bring your new pals to life. Some of our favorites for fall are turnkeys and leaf people. We’d love to see what you create – share your favorites with us!
Picture Frames
Deliver school photos in fall-inspired frames. Frame this year’s school photo or one from home and decorate it in fall FUN! Kids design what shows out the front and back of the hanging frame – use a variety of leaf and acorn accents for an exciting mix of foliage. Glue the picture into place. Choose to glue the other items down, or leave them loose like floating confetti. With an adult’s help, kids punch holes along the plate edges and lace the plates together through the holes (gluing the plates together works too!). Use raffia or string to make loops for hanging. Hang leaf accents and acorns too. What a fun craft and fabulous keepsake for parents and grandparents!
Friendly Leaf Masks
Dressing up and playing pretend is FUN for all ages! Enjoy this mask making activity and watch imaginations soar. Keep your masks simple, using just two leaves, or create a real show-stopper with piles of photo-real foliage. Once you have your masks created, it’s time to PLAY!
Directions: Leaf Masquerade Masks DIY
Some fun ideas include:
- Invent a fall superhero and invite kids to act out the hero’s good deeds (like help rake the lawn!)
- Play leaf hide-and-seek wearing your super-secret, leaf-finding “glasses”
- Read fall-inspired books and dress up to reenact the plot
- Look the part during fall adventures (we love nature hikes and visiting pumpkin patches or apple orchards)
- Host a fall “mask”erade celebration or harvest party
- Play charades: write animals or character names on the inside of a variety of masks – kids randomly select a mask and act the part!
