Directions
  1. Start with the grass! Create your own paper grass using green construction paper or bulletin board paper. First, using the long side of the paper as your base, cut your paper to the height you want your grass. Then, leaving an inch or two at the bottom, draw a zig-zag pattern along the length of the paper to mimic blades of grass. Play with the width of your grass blades to give it a natural look. Cut along the drawn line and you’ve got DIY paper grass. Repeat this process until you’ve covered the length of the display. If using construction paper, try cutting 2-3 sheets at a time to speed up the process. With bulletin board paper, speed up the process by taking your strip of paper, cut to the height you’d like, and fold it in half vertically, then again in half vertically. Keeping the paper folded, with an inch or two left at the bottom, draw your zig-zag pattern. Then, cut along the line. Unfold to see your cut pattern across the entire length.
  2. Add your paper grass to the bottom of the wall. We layered ours to give it a more organic look.
  3. Using the Ready Letters®, add your ‘Rooting for You’ message to the wall.
  4. Write student names on the flower accents – or leave them blank – and add them to the wall.
  5. Create stems for the flowers. We used green painter’s tape, but you could use construction paper for this. If using green tape, we recommend placing strips of tape onto a cut-safe mat and trimming the width using a knife blade to give the stems varied shape. Add the stems to the walls behind the flowers and grass.
  6. Add leaves to the flower stems. We cut leaves out of the Vine Time Terrific Trimmers® for this, but you could use construction paper cut into leaf shapes as well.
  7. Complete your display with any final touches. Using pieces from the Rainbow Garden Bulletin Board Set, we added a birdhouse and bird to the left side of the display, so the bird is speaking the encouraging message. We also included a few bees and butterflies throughout to make it feel like a true flower garden.
