Learning FUN Ideas
Enjoy these five activity ideas for lots of number and counting FUN:
Cards are color-coded by 10s (3, 13, 23 are all orange, for example). Hand out cards by color and ask learners to put them in order. Then, read the cards to skip-count by 10s!
There are 31 numbers to celebrate a new number each day of a month. Split weekend numbers between Friday and Monday or invite kids to celebrate those numbers at home. Eat that number of a snack, do that many jumping jacks, make a number song, and so on.
Let the animal photos inspire this activity. Draw a card or point to one on display. Kids name an action the animal might make. Then, take 17 slow, sliding steps (for example) to demonstrate the sloth card.
Divide into groups and stand up. Shuffle. Give each student a card from a sequential set of numbers. Learners rearrange until they are holding the cards in number order.
Give each student a card from the set and invite him or her to bring in that number of any object (pennies, toy cars, small blocks, etc.). For small group play, give them sets of items and cards for them to count the objects and match to the set's piece.
