Learning FUN Ideas

Enjoy these activity ideas for lots of FUN learning about the United States:

    1. Discover a State! With pieces from The United States Wipe-Off Learning Set as reference, ask individuals or small groups to select a state to research. You may want to investigate your home state, or a state far away. There's so much ground to cover! Explore food, geography, population, history, government, natural resources, state parks, and more. Look for similarities and differences. Once research has been completed, have groups share their discoveries with your class.

    2. Where in the United States? Can you match the state or territory card to its place on the map? Display the 5 region pieces plus Alaska and Hawaii on a wall to create a fully assembled map. Shuffle the state and territory cards. Have students select a card, then point to where it belongs on the map and write in the name with a Wipe-Off® Marker. If they guess incorrectly, easily wipe clean and try again. For further practice, use the United States Map Blank Project Sheet free reproducible to note state names and capitals.

    3. America the Beautiful Bucket List – America is a vast country with much to explore. Students or family members can create bucket lists of places to visit while familiarizing themselves with the United States! First, have participants look through all of the state and territory cards and place ones that spark their interest to the side. Maybe they enjoy the imagery, the fun facts, or they want to go and visit someday. Once everyone has selected at least one card, share which states and territories people chose and why. For further exploration, have participants research one of the selected cards, create a travel brochure or multimedia presentation, and present it to the group.
