Directions
- Plan your path! Start by deciding where your start and finish line will be and imagine the route your path may take in between. We like to use the space beneath a whiteboard to display something like this. For our start line, we use the “Path to Success” sign from the Stepping Stones Learning Set. This set also includes a blank sign that can replace the word “success” with a goal of your choosing. For this display, we hand lettered the word “Wellness” onto the blank sign and added it over the original, so it now reads “Path to Wellness”. For our finish line, the garden well from the Well Wishes Bulletin Board Set was the perfect piece. Hang your start and finish pieces in place.
- Mark your milestones! For this display we used all twenty stones from the Stepping Stones Learning Set with the intention of teaching one wellness activity a week, ending with the end of the school year. You get to decide which activities are appropriate for your learners, plus how many activities/stones you use, and how frequently you teach each activity. See our supplies list if you need additional stones. On each stone, write the wellness activity you plan to teach.
- Lay your garden path! With the start and finish in place, hang your garden path in the order you want to teach. We like to curve our path so we can nest other décor pieces along the edges. The curve also helps to highlight the ups and downs of any journey.
- Need a rest? We like putting the bench from the Stepping Stones Learning Set about mid-way through the journey as a spot to “sit” and reflect. The bench is a great conversation starter to talk through how far you’ve come, what you’ve learned, and, if necessary, any changes you’d make to cross that finish line.
- Make your garden lush! With your path in place, fill in the edges with plants, critters, lights, and encouraging messages. The Stepping Stones Learning Set includes all these pieces, but we like to amplify the garden feel with additional color and greenery using Garden Plants accents. We paired the potted plants with the Garden Signs accents to create custom, inspiring messages along the path.
- One step at a time! Once your path is ready to use, place your red hedgehog (or other critter of choice) at the start line and begin your journey.
